Mellissa - Committee Member
Bellarine Living and Learning Centre, Whittington
Introducing myself I have lived in Geelong my entire life, got married and moved to Whittington. I have 5 children now this year my twins started school, so I had to find what I enjoyed doing.
This lead me on a remarkable journey and this is where the journey begins. Over the years I have been on a few committees such as the primary school parents and friends committee and the community centre committee. I currently volunteer at the centre where I have been a part of the committee for 5 years on and off. I been secretary and vice chair this year. I have also taken on a leadership role which sees me as facilitator for a group, which to me is exiting as I love listening to people’s stories,( we all have a story to tell) .
This year I have been able to complete a leadership program through the city council in which I have been developing my skills and confidence in my ability to work in governance as well as project planning and development. The best part of this program were the connections that were made which lead me to have this wonderful opportunity opening up to me to come on this committee.
I have studied At Bible College which has taught me all about group facilitation and leadership. These skills have empowered me to empower others to become all they can be, my personal saying is ( to bring out the Gold in every one ) My passion is to see each community grow in there knowledge of community houses and their programs, for many people don’t know about there local neighbourhood houses and what they can do for them. But my heart really is for the Whittington community and to see my community centre thrive and grow.
What can I bring to the table my vision my clarity my empowerment enthusiasm with a fresh set of eyes who is eager to learn and grow in this amazing community sector. I’m thankful for this amazing opportunity and how it allows me to continue serving the community.
